The Galician Observatory for Demographic Revitalization has just published its first thematic dossier, 'Mobility and Migrations in Galicia'. In this monograph, experts and specialists examine different dimensions of the population movements that are reshaping our territory, updating data and incorporating new analytical perspectives.

The Galician Observatory for Demographic Revitalization has just released a comprehensive analysis on mobility and migration within the Galician territory. The dossier 'Mobility and Migrations in Galicia' brings together contributions from several specialists who examine how population movements are reshaping the country’s demographic structure and provide new interpretations and updated data on this phenomenon.

Within this report, the chapter entitled Recent Trends in Youth Emigration in Rural Areas of Galicia”, written by Rocío Toxo Asorei and Ana Isabel García Arias from the Ecoagrasoc research group, provides a detailed analysis of the youth migration flows originating in Galicia’s rural areas. Based on a delineation of rural areas following European criteria, the authors explore:

  1. The demographic dynamics of these counties throughout the 21st century.
  2. The main determinants driving rural youth emigration in Galicia.
  3. Their correspondence with the factors identified by European research on youth migration.

The findings open new avenues for reflection in studies on rural emigration and offer key insights for designing rural development measures tailored to the Galician context.
